A Traditional Swiss Accessory for Your Keychain by Appenzeller Gurt
The Appenzell key ring is 5.4 cm high, 3.5 cm wide. It is made of cowhide and decorated with a traditional brass ornament. The thickness of the leather is 4 mm. The key ring is made from the remaining leather of the Appenzell belt production.
The History
The Appenzell belt is a piece of Swiss tradition. The belts were made of cowhide and handmade metal fittings, which show alpine motifs such as alpine dairymen, suns, flower ornaments and cows. The more ornaments were found on the belt, the richer the wearer was.
You can choose between two different brass ornaments: A "Senn" and a Swiss cow. A "Senn" is an Alpine shepherd who processes milk into butter and cheese on the mountain pasture.
